A modern house nestled in the hills of Orinda, California. A young family of five wanted to create a white minimalist home with intimate rooms to suit their casual lifestyle, and a blurring of the boundaries between inside and out, house and nature. We accomplished this by installing Fleetwood doors that slide into the wall and remain open to the outside, and continuing the concrete flooring from inside to out to blend the transition. A stunning sheet of opaque glass at the foyer separates the living room from the entry, an accent that catches the eye immediately upon entering the house. All cabinetry is made in Italy. The second level has a guest wing with a separate kitchenette, laundry, and guest bedroom. Reclaimed siding from a barn in Petaluma graces the ceiling in the pool room and the wall in the guest bedroom. Concrete floors are used throughout, and an internal garage door rolls up to reveal the industrial workout room. The guest bathroom has a retro vibe with black and white tiles.
