For this top-to-bottom renovation in the Orinda Country Club, we enlivened a traditional existing home with a fresh new approach. To reflect the energetic lifestyle of our clients — a young, active family with three boys — we updated the interiors with a modern sensibility, layering in fun, new spaces to accommodate the family’s love of entertaining.
One of the project’s key elements is a new indoor-outdoor entertaining lounge, now affectionately known as “the 19th hole,” set within a space that formerly housed a playroom and bathroom. Featuring hand-troweled plaster walls, custom metal shelving, warm brass details, and Shinnoki wood wainscoting, the new bar and lounge area is equal parts dramatic and playful. A pass-through “snack shack” connects the indoor bar to the outdoor lounge, offering views of multiple televisions from both inside and out. Tones of deep black create a moody atmosphere, while constellations on the ceiling representing the astrological signs of the family add a meaningful personal touch.
Contemporary elements throughout the home — a redesigned kitchen nook, a new built-in bookcase and marble fireplace to the family room, a stylish pool bathroom, and a beautifully-detailed powder room — form a layered, livable home that is both elevated and welcoming, tailored perfectly to the lifestyle of this modern family.
