We set out to create a warm modern home by using white oak floors, concrete, and caesarstone combined with neutral textiles and fabrics. The inspiration was to simplify life for this family of three. They envisioned a gracious home perfect for entertaining and indoor/outdoor living. The entry leads immediately to the open floor plan of the living room, dining room and kitchen. The living room and the dining room were designed with a linear two sided fireplace with a floating hearth so family gatherings and parties had ample overflow seating. While the home is traditional by design, the owners’ are modernists at heart. Art plays an important role in this home’s design, adding pops of color and creating a unique, yet unifying aesthetic for each space. Anchoring the kitchen is a stunning abstract triptych painting by AJ Oishi. Oishi’s dotted geometric circles spread across three canvases in gradations of blues, the perfect impact for a long high stairwell wall that is visible from all entertaining zones of the house. The front pivot door is a work of art and sets the tone for the home. Thoughtful use of color, texture and natural materials creates a warm, comfortable and quietly modern home perfect for the next phase of the client’s lives.
