CURRENT OPEN POSITIONS
SENIOR DESIGNER
The ideal candidate will have 7+ years of experience in high-end residential interior design and excellent presentation and drafting skills. The Designer will work under the Principal and oversee all aspects of the design process – from schematic design to construction documentation and construction management. The Designer will be expected to recommend a visual presentation of the concept and communicate the Principal Designer’s objectives orally and visually and will manage all project related tasks, client meetings and contractor coordination.

General Responsibilities and Requirements: 
Research and analysis of the client's goals and requirements, and development of documents, drawings and diagrams that outline those needs.
- Ability to interact effectively with the design team on multiple projects
- Formulate preliminary space plans, and sketches that integrate the client's needs and are based on knowledge of the principles of interior design
- Oversee the implementation of interior design solutions for each project from the concept stage through installation
- Confirm that preliminary space plans and design concepts are safe, functional, and aesthetically appropriate
- Select colors, materials and finishes to appropriately convey design concepts
- Select and specify furniture, fixtures, equipment, including layout drawings and detailed product description; and provision of contract              documentation to facilitate pricing, procurement and installation of furniture
- Prepare specifications and schedules with accurate product information for all furniture, lighting and materials
- Prepare reflected ceiling plans and lighting designs; materials and finishes; and furniture layouts. Ability to prepare custom furniture drawings. - Ability to field measure and document building condition
- Coordination and collaboration with other design professionals who may be retained to provide consulting services, including but not limited      to architects, structural engineers, contractors and various specialty consultants
- Observation and reporting on the implementation of projects while in progress and upon completion
- Prepare project costs, fee analysis and proposals, and oversee and review project billings with consideration of roles, responsibilities
- Efficiently manage project designers, design assistants, and interns on project team; demonstrate strong managerial and communication skills
- Interface with Principal on project design development
 
Skills:
- Degree in Interior Design or Interior Architecture
- Minimum of 7 years interior design experience
- Excellent presentation skills, including space planning and drawing
- Experience selecting and specifying lighting, furnishings, hardware, floor/window coverings, materials, and finishes
- Ability to interact effectively with the design team on multiple projects
- Experience with purchasing and budgets
- Knowledge of trade resources and vendors (SF Design Center a plus)
- Proficiency in AutoCAD.
- Ability to create and manage Excel spreadsheets
- Proficiency in Photoshop
- Knowledge of and/or ability to learn timekeeping and billing software

DESIGN ASSISTANT
The Design Assistant contributes to the success of KMI by assisting in general office and design duties, drafting, sourcing, coordinating, filing library and images. The ideal candidate will have 1-2 years of experience in residential interior design, focusing on high-end residential design.

The primary role of Design Assistant is to assist the designers during the design process including:
Provide design, clerical and administrative support to the design team
- Assist design team and principal with requesting quotes, creating proposals and tracking orders
- Provide support in sourcing materials and creating CAD plans for various projects
- Ability to draft and create space plans, floor plans and elevations 
- Assist interior designers and Principal with installations, coordinate deliveries and handle post-installation follow up activities
- Ability to help haul heavy samples and small furniture items during presentations or installations 

Organize and maintain design library:
- Set up meetings with vendors and present new materials to project team
- Research building materials, new products and finishes
- Maintain the library, studio files, binders and return samples to the design center
- Check receipt of merchandise and sign for packages

Prepare for client meetings and other responsibilities as needed:
- Gather and pack necessary materials and organize the meeting agenda
- Write and revise specifications for furnishings
- Create budgets, schedules and specifications
- Type meeting notes, add to Asana and create project binders

Skills:
- Degree in Interior Architecture or Interior Design
- Excellent presentation skills
- Ability to create and manage Excel spreadsheets
- Knowledge of and/or ability to learn time-keeping and billing software
