Friday. Entertaining: Baseball Opening Day party! We are in a neighborhood dinner club and it was our turn to host. Our dinner club friends are foodies and we have experienced lovely formal sit down dinners with multiple courses. Exquisite.
I wanted to come up with something different that would turn the dinner club on it’s head. It is baseball season so why not do something completely casual. We bundled cracker jacks, peanuts and sunflower seeds with an invite and I personally delivered it to everyones doorstep. I used astro turf as the grass tablecloth, with white plates and red baskets for dinner. I purchased galvanized buckets at the local hardware store and filled them with crackers jacks, truffle popcorn and peanuts for the centerpieces. The tags with the fun font was a key detail of the presentation. For the place cards I used baseballs. We had a casual menu – all the typical ballpark food – buffalo wings and nachos for appetizers. Dinner was hot dogs, hamburgers, garlic fries, and caesar salad with pancetta. Dessert was the fully stocked ice cream bar with vintage ice cream soda glasses, baseball themed candies and such. It was a fantastic evening. You could definitely try this concept for soccer, lacrosse or a Superbowl party Cheers!
