Looking for a new book to read this summer?  I just finished Shoe Dog:  A Memoir by the Creator of Nike and I loved it!!!  It is by Phil Knight, the founder of Nike, and it is inspiring and fascinating learning about the early days of his intrepid startup and how it grew to become one of the world’s most iconic game-changing brands.  I literally read it in 2 days and am going to have my kids read it too as I know they will enjoy it as much as I did!

Have you started planning your celebrations for Father’s Day?  I’ve been doing a little “pinning” to get my creative juices flowing for barbeque/dinner ideas for dads!  So many great parties and entertaining tips that I’m having a hard time deciding which ones to pick.  Head on over to my Father’s Day Inspiration Board to see some of my faves.  Would love to hear which ones you like the most!

We have had such a busy spring with lots of great projects and are ever so carefully, finishing them up and having some of them photographed!  Thought we would share one of our favorite projects we’ve been working on for the past couple of years.  Slowly and methodically, this gorgeous home has come together and has something unique and special in every room.

Here are a few of our favorite rooms from the photoshoot…

This is the dining room that is attached to the formal living room.

Downstairs Office

Family Room

How gorgeous is this kitchen? I wish you could see the pantry that is to the right, but we didn’t get photos of it. It’s just as pretty as the kitchen!

Hallway Cubbies

Love their outdoor dining area.

You should feel the carpet in the master bedroom. It’s like walking on a cloud!

This isn’t the best shot of it, but one of my favorite parts of the master bath is the open shower. There are no doors surrounding it as it is placed directly to the right of the shower. It is really cool!

Bedroom #1

Bedroom #2–Aren’t the colors fun for a teenage girl?

Guest Bedroom

Laundry Room

Bonus Room

We have thoroughly enjoyed working with this family and have loved making this the home of their dreams.  Hope you’ve enjoyed seeing it!

We’re also updating our portfolio on Houzz, so be sure to head over to check out more recent projects!

Looking to do a paint refresh this spring?  Well if you are, here are our picks for our favorite grey paints!  Going with grey can be a little trickier than one might think because it can take on a cool note when it has blue undertones to it or it can feel a little warmer if it has beige undertones to it.  So be sure to get paint swatches, check them out at different times of the day and with different lighting before you make your choice.  I would highly recommend grabbing a couple of pint sized cans to test it out on the walls you’re painting.  The dried paint almost always looks different than on the swatch.

These are some of our most used grey paints!

The walls in this image of our client’s daughter’s room are painted Stonington Grey.

The walls in our clients’ living room are painted Abalone by Benjamin Moore.

These are seriously the best idea for new moms on Mother’s Day!!!

Speaking of new moms, I’m getting ready to host a baby shower for my niece and am getting all kinds of inspiration from yes, you guessed it, Pinterest!

How am I ever going to decide which direction to go?  I’ve got baby shower idea overload going full throttle right now!

Wednesday–Inspire:  I have always found it very important to give back to my community and one of my favorite organizations to work with is Shelter’s Inc.  I love their mission of providing shelter for families in crisis while teaching them tools to change their lives.   We are so excited to be focusing on their Pittsburgh location.  In this phase, we are making over their conference room that we hope will inspire and educate everyone who is learning to build their resume, interviewing skills and working on job placement.
In addition, we are also going to make over the children’s playroom with tables for art projects, a tutoring area, an art wall, and the world map that we hope will encourage the children and parents to think big and pursue their dreams.

I do a lot of research when planning a design for our clients and am always looking for new sources of inspiration.  I read tons of design magazines and came across an image in one recently and instantly fell in love with the vibe of this kitchen.  It’s moody, modern and edgy and the brass accents add the perfect touch of glam.  Very cool!

This sent me on a hunt for more images with dark tile…

The dark penny tile in this shower with the brass fixture is simple, but still striking…

Another great way to incorporate the moody blacks is to use soapstone as a countertop.

If you’d like to add a touch of black to your home, here are a couple of great sources…

Wednesday–Inspire:  Next visit to the city, be sure to stop in at Anthem Home on Sacramento Street!  Their stores are so well curated with items that are unique and that you would never find at large retail stores.  I love going in there to look for accessories for our clients’ homes and inevitably find a little something for my own home as well!  They have furniture, lighting, bed and bath items and even have some unique jewelry pieces.  And great news…they are opening a store in Menlo Park this spring, as well as having an on line shopping experience to come!  Definitely one of my favorite shops!

Wednesday–Inspire:  Did you know that you should always use a mat that has 8-ply thickness when framing your artwork?  It makes your art pop and makes it look all the more important!  See these images from some art in my own home and a gallery wall we did for our clients…

Family gallery wall in my own home.

Our clients’ family gallery wall.

All good frame shops will know what you mean when specifying the thickness of the mat.  It’s a really easy way to make your art and photos feel special.

Wednesday–Inspire:  I always have admired Los Angeles designer Ross Cassidy, especially after watching him on Million Dollar Decorating.  He is definitely a minimalist and I am in love his new collaboration with CB2.  Here are a few of my favorite pieces of his…
