I’m a firm believer that there are times to invest and there are times to splurge. Generally speaking, I think this rule of thumb applies to interiors as well as to fashion. For example, I would invest in quality items such as upholstery goods including a sofa, chair, and case-good furniture. You can tell the quality of furniture by the finishes and if it is authentic and not cheaply made. Areas to save money might be on more trendy items that could easily be swapped out or upgraded in the future such as pillows, accessories, and throw blankets.
Here are some great pillows and throws that you could use in a play room, on a front porch or in a child’s room that you might want to switch out as your children grow. I would much rather invest in my staple pieces and save a little on the cool, trendy items that I’m apt to switch up more often.
